Mrs Marie Anne Hall becomes a God mother to a "Black Rhino"

Marie Anne was asked by the Scheder-Bieschin family to do them the honour of becoming the God mother to MACS heavy lift ship the "Black Rhino". For the uninitiated this, in my opinion at least, is a huge honour for anyone. How many people in the world can say they have Christened a ship? 30-40 thousand maybe? Considering the earth has over 5 billion people puts it into perspective what an exclusive little club this must be. I for one am envious and would love to have this honour one day.

This all happened on Saturday the 14Th July 2007 in Cape Town.

The lady of the moment ... Mrs Marie Anne Hall giving her speech while christening the ship. Obviously it was a great speech....

This was the group of guests that were invited to the ceremony standing on the quay while Felix was making his speech.

Marie Anne with the Captain of the ship Alex Sekula and Felix Scheder-Bieschin the owner of the ship and also the one who asked Marie Anne if she would do him the honour of being the ships God mother.

The bottle of champagne in its "hang mans noose". The Captain had said to Marie Anne before she threw it that statistically only 2 in 10 bottles actually broke the first time. He also said it was bad luck if the bottle did not break. So we had one very determined bunny on the quay side. We think the Captain was only kidding.

The moment of impact.

Scoring the goal...

Happiness is seeing that the champagne bottle broke.

Bill and Marie Anne handing over the carving of two Black Rhino's done in Marble to the Master of the ship.

This is a close up of the carvings that Marie Anne gave to the Master and crew of the M.V. Black Rhino in honour of re-naming the ship.
